WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – The winner of Massachusetts eHealth Institute’s (MeHI) first Medicaid Challenge is Tembo Health. Tembo Health will receive a $50,000 grant to pilot their remote monitoring technology with members of the nonprofit health insurance company, WellSense.
As part of their Senior Care Options (SCO) plan, Wellsense offers comprehensive healthcare services to Massachusetts residents aged 65 or older, who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare. Wellsense’s managed care program combines health services with specialized social support programs. Tembo Health competed against MiiCare and EmPowerYu for the grant in front of a panel of expert judges.
“The Medicaid Challenge program demonstrates a public commitment to assisting Medicaid beneficiaries, a group historically left out of tech research and development,” said Carolyn Kirk, CEO, Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech). “Congratulations to Tembo Health on their innovative approach to improve monitoring and patient care in the later stages of life.”
“As part of this competition, participating companies worked hard to showcase their digital health solutions after advancing from an initial pool of 27 applicants,” said Keely Benson, director, MeHI. “MeHI is looking forward to following to Tembo Health’s success, and excited to bring together Wellsense, UMass Chan and UMass Lowell to pilot this digital health solution.”
The Massachusetts Medicaid Challenge Program is designed to identify and pilot digital health solutions focused on improving at-home monitoring and support for community-dwelling older adults with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and their caregivers. The program is funded and administered by MeHI.
