MeHI developed the Health Information Technology (Health IT) Mentorship Program to provide opportunities for Massachusetts college students to learn about careers in the Health IT field, network with each other and Health IT professionals and gain valuable experience as they complete a Health IT project with the guidance of a mentor. The goal of the Health IT Mentorship Program is to advance the Health IT workforce in Massachusetts by encouraging college students from a wide variety of backgrounds to pursue a career in Health IT.
Program Overview
MeHI’s Health IT Mentorship Program will pair professionals currently working in the Health IT field with students looking to enter the Health IT workforce. The three-month pilot program is scheduled to launch in Fall 2024.
- 10 mentors and 10 mentees will be paired based on shared interests.
- Mentors and mentees will meet for at least one hour every two weeks.
- Mentees will work on a Health IT-focused project with the guidance of their mentor.
- The program will culminate in a virtual project showcase.
- Mentees will have the opportunity to virtually network and support one another.
Mentee Profile
- First or second year student currently enrolled in an associate degree program at a Massachusetts community college
- Students may be enrolled in Health IT, IT or Health programs
- Strong interest in entering the Health IT workforce
- Diverse students, including those who are Black, Latino, women and LGBTQIA+ are strongly encouraged to apply
Mentor Profile
- Health IT professional with more than 5 years experience
- Preference for mentors at Community Health Centers
- Available to meet with a student virtually for 6-10 hours over three months
- Able to help student design and complete a Health IT-related project
